Tatiora's Articles In Movies & TV & Books

I am a nerd about a lot of things, and in recent years I've found Marvel - specifically its Cinematic Universe - to be no exception. I watched She-Hulk weekly without fail and absolutely fell in love with the quirky nature of the series (breaking the 4th wall is one of my all-time favorite comedic elements).  She-Hulk is the first Marvel property to feature a completely CGI'ed main character, which of course comes with some production challenges. Marvel recently put out a really cool...

I was fully and completely prepared to write a post about the recent reveals at D23 Expo this past weekend...but then was distracted and entertained by an article I saw over on Gizmodo about a battle between Australians and Cockatoos in the suburbs of Sydney. Birds are  smart  - so much so that I often wonder why the term "bird brained" is an insult. Cockatoos in Syndey, Australia have apparently learned to open trash bins, and the technique is catching on between other groups of co...

Nobody likes a delay, but Disney has unfortunately had to push back the release of  Andor  by about three weeks. The trailer for the show dropped yesterday and the new date of September 21st was announced. Disney or Lucas Film haven't given any reason for the delay, but they did announce that the first drop for Andor will include three episodes - something that is, thus far, unprecedented of a Disney+ show release. This decision probably has something to do with the show's ep...

I'm a pretty big Dungeons & Dragons nerd. If you know me, this hardly comes as a shock - but I basically grew up playing various TTRPGs. As someone who loves writing and acting, table-top roleplaying games scratch so many itches for me all at once. My first game was sometime around 1995 in my friend's basement (I got crushed by a rock, it was very anticlimactic), and I remember how excited I was when a D&D movie released in 2000 with the legendary Jeremy Irons in it. Even Jeremy Ir...

Supergiant’s Hades made history earlier this week by becoming the first video game to ever win a Hugo Award. Awarded annually, the Hugo Award is a prestigious literary award presented to the best science fiction or fantasy works for the previous year. Typically, this is reserved for works like novels or short stories, but a newly added video game category for 2021 gave Hades an opportunity for recognition. The game was up against others in the science fiction and fan...

Today, in cool things I found out about but definitely can't justify the cost of: Disney's Star Wars experience will offer lightsaber training. When Disney first announced their fully immersive  Star Wars  experience, I expected it would be expensive...but the cost was revealed to be around $6,000 for a family of four for just two nights, so it exceeded my expectations but quite a bit there. Still, it's fun to dream about, because as more details emerge it just keeps sounding cooler an...

Back in 2018, James Wan's  Aquaman  made a big splash (pun intended) at the box office. In early 2019, we learned about Warner Brothers' plan to develop a smaller-scale horror spinoff based on the creatures that appeared during the underwater trench sequence of that movie. Which seemed weird, sure, but also made sense as a next step in superhero films for the director of movies like  Saw, Insidious,  and  Malignant.  The Trench movie was canceled earlier this...

On Monday, Disney announced that a slew of upcoming releases (most of which are Marvel superhero films) have been pushed back by a matter of months. Some eagle-eyed viewers noticed that some previously announced movies have been taken off the schedule all together - so what's going on? There are a couple of possible reasons. Disney could potentially be hoping that, by waiting a few extra months, people will start returning to the movie theaters with more frequency, thus upping box office g...

Hey all you cool cats and kittens, get ready to toss a coin to your Witcher - there's some news from the streaming realm! If you raised an eyebrow at the genre-blending sentence above, you wouldn't the only one; I did the same as I was writing it. While the announcement that Season 2 of Netflix's The Witcher is on its way isn't terribly shocking, I will say that I did a double-take at the headline that Tiger King  season 2 was on its way also? If you're unfamiliar with the documentar...

I've talked about Marvel movies/shows and how much I love them a few times before, but in case you're new around here... I really like super heroes. In particular, at least in the Marvel-verse, my favorite hero has always been Hawkeye. And until recently, we've seen a few production stills and have heard a handful of rumors, but not much else was known about the upcoming show that shares a name with my beloved archer. Until this week, that is. On Monday, Disney shared our first look at ...

After a delay that lasted over a year due to the pandemic, Disney's  Black Widow  finally hit theaters this past weekend - and boy did it leave a mark! The film grossed over $218 million worldwide during its debut weekend. This includes the American box office, international box offices, and premiere purchases on the streaming service Disney+. This marks the biggest opening weekend for a film since the pandemic began, and the third-largest domestic opening for an origin story b...

When I wrote this, it was Friday morning of the season finale for The Mandalorian and no - I hadn't watched it yet! Believe me, my plan was to do that first thing after work. I have always had a soft spot for cute things, and let's be real: Baby Yoda (name redacted because spoilers) is about as cute as it gets. I also admit to having a bit of a weakness for clever things like little creatures that live on your computer desktop or, since the innovation of things like Pokemon Go, critters you c...

Holy cow, you guys, Disney went ham with show announcements last week and my brain is  still  trying to wrap itself around everything that we'll be getting from our favorite franchises in the next 2-3 years. Disney's "Investor Day" event was on December 10th, and in a four-hour long presentation they shared the slate for a  ton  of upcoming projects, most of which are specifically for the Disney+ streaming service. Disney+ has already amassed 86.8 million subscribers in it...

Hello there - it's your friendly neighborhood nerd, back to talk about video game movies again. Although this time, instead of discussing some of my favorite flicks from the 90's , we're going to touch on a movie that hasn't released yet but has been teased and in development: Monster Hunter. The above teaser is only 16 seconds long, but is enough to elicit an immediate "huh?" from anyone who is a fan of the game series. If you're not familiar with Monster Hunter, let me sum it up for y...

Here at Stardock, we love Science Fiction of all kinds: books, movies, comics, shows, you name it. Admittedly, I'm a bit more of a high fantasy girl myself, but I definitely love my Star Wars and Star Trek , and let's not exclude the glory that is Galaxy Quest . In another blog recently, I discussed genres and how they applied to gaming, specifically strategy - but it certainly applies here, as well. After all, Science Fiction isn't Science Fiction without certain elements, and there have be...
