If you don't have a sub and you want to explore Netflix's content, now's your chance

If you've been holding off on getting a Netflix subscription for whatever reason, the streaming giant is ready to give you a taste of what they have to offer through a free (no subscription or free trial required!) selection of movies and shows. The selection was made available over the weekend and includes popular movies like Bird BoxMurder Mystery, and shows like Stranger Things and When They See Us.

Netflix's "watch free" page has an array of shows and movies for you to sample, but the shows come with a bit of a catch. Only the first episode of each is freely available - if you want to watch more, you'll need to subscribe to Netflix in order to do so. From a marketing perspective, it's a smart move: give viewers a taste, and hope that they give you their money so that they can watch more.

On the FAQ page for the new portal, Netflix says that "the selection may change from time to time." Netflix also said in a statement to Gadgets 360 that "We're always looking at different marketing promotions to attract new members and give them a great Netflix experience."

With the video streaming market more competitive than ever before thanks to Hulu, Amazon Prime, newcomer Disney+, and others, it makes sense that Netflix would attempt to draw more viewers to their platform through various marketing tactics. What remains to be seen, though, is how effective this move is going to be.

Do you subscribe to any streaming services? Which ones and why? Let me know what show you're addicted to right now in the comments!
