Over the last several months, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced people to quarantine in their homes, causing an increase of use for  entertainment streaming platforms. Today, Disney announced that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be coming to Disney+ two months earlier than intended. Appropriately, the release is scheduled for May 4th, a widely celebrated holiday among geeky circles called "Star Wars Day." Now everyone with a Disney+ account can watch the entire Skywalker saga to...

Are you running out of streaming shows to binge during quarantine? No worries, John Favreau and The Mandalorian have you covered - the pandemic didn't halt production and the show's second season is still scheduled to release on time. Granted, "on time" means October, so there's still a bit of a wait, but Favreau explained during a digital panel at the ATX Television Festival this weekend that they'd already completed filming before all of the restrictions began. “We were lucky ...

NOTE: This discussion contains spoilers for Season 1 of The Witcher. If you haven't watched it yet and care about plot points, avoid reading further! The COVID-19 Pandemic has, unfortunately, set a lot of things back on their schedules. Conventions and conferences have been (and are still being) canceled, movies have been delayed, and filming for a certain hit Netflix series ground to a halt. While we might have to wait just a bit longer to resolve some of the cliffhanger question...

After a delay that lasted over a year due to the pandemic, Disney's  Black Widow  finally hit theaters this past weekend - and boy did it leave a mark! The film grossed over $218 million worldwide during its debut weekend. This includes the American box office, international box offices, and premiere purchases on the streaming service Disney+. This marks the biggest opening weekend for a film since the pandemic began, and the third-largest domestic opening for an origin story b...

When I wrote this, it was Friday morning of the season finale for The Mandalorian and no - I hadn't watched it yet! Believe me, my plan was to do that first thing after work. I have always had a soft spot for cute things, and let's be real: Baby Yoda (name redacted because spoilers) is about as cute as it gets. I also admit to having a bit of a weakness for clever things like little creatures that live on your computer desktop or, since the innovation of things like Pokemon Go, critters you c...

Holy cow, you guys, Disney went ham with show announcements last week and my brain is  still  trying to wrap itself around everything that we'll be getting from our favorite franchises in the next 2-3 years. Disney's "Investor Day" event was on December 10th, and in a four-hour long presentation they shared the slate for a  ton  of upcoming projects, most of which are specifically for the Disney+ streaming service. Disney+ has already amassed 86.8 million subscribers in it...

Hello there - it's your friendly neighborhood nerd, back to talk about video game movies again. Although this time, instead of discussing some of my favorite flicks from the 90's , we're going to touch on a movie that hasn't released yet but has been teased and in development: Monster Hunter. The above teaser is only 16 seconds long, but is enough to elicit an immediate "huh?" from anyone who is a fan of the game series. If you're not familiar with Monster Hunter, let me sum it up for y...

Here at Stardock, we love Science Fiction of all kinds: books, movies, comics, shows, you name it. Admittedly, I'm a bit more of a high fantasy girl myself, but I definitely love my Star Wars and Star Trek , and let's not exclude the glory that is Galaxy Quest . In another blog recently, I discussed genres and how they applied to gaming, specifically strategy - but it certainly applies here, as well. After all, Science Fiction isn't Science Fiction without certain elements, and there have be...

***SPOILER ALERT*** If you haven't watched season 1 of The Mandalorian  yet, this article discusses some important plot elements. If you care about being surprised, read no further - drop what you're doing and go give it a watch! If you've been missing the adventures of Mando and his adorable charge known only as The Child, then you don't have much longer to wait. Disney+ confirmed last week that Season 2 of  The Mandalorian  will debut on October 30th, 2020.  E ...

If you've been holding off on getting a Netflix subscription for whatever reason, the streaming giant is ready to give you a taste of what they have to offer through a free  (no subscription or free trial required!) selection of movies and shows. The selection was made available over the weekend and includes popular movies like  Bird Box ,  Murder Mystery,  and shows like  Stranger Things  and  When They See Us. Netflix's "watch free" page has an arra...

Since I’m not going out very much these days, I’ve spent quite a lot more time online with my gaming buddies. We’ve poured countless hours into games on Tabletop Simulator (Bargain Quest is the current favorite), played one too many Overwatch matches (when the enemies start to blur together into one entity you know you need to take a break), and have watched copious amounts of movies (we watched Hamilton together, it was awesome).  Recently, when debating which movie...

Are you a fan of podcasts? On Monday, the satellite radio company SiriusXM announced that it reached a deal to acquire Stitcher from E.W. Scripps to the tune of $325 million. Stitcher is a pioneer in podcasting that provides a popular one-stop platform for creating, monetizing, and distributing podcasts to listen via its app and other platforms.  Stitcher brings its own mobile listening app (which was acquired for $4.5 million in 2016) to the table. It also operates the Midroll Media ...

I've been on a movie/TV binge lately (at this rate, who isn't anymore?), and a bunch of news regarding my beloved Star Wars franchise came to my attention this morning, so that's what I'm going to talk about - because I can. I partake in a lot of animated shows, so I am no stranger to Mark Hamill's work outside of Star Wars. He is, truly, "the" Joker as far as I'm concerned, and of course has lent his talents to countless other animated characters, including Fire Lord Ozai from Avatar: The L...

I am a nerd about a lot of things, and in recent years I've found Marvel - specifically its Cinematic Universe - to be no exception. I watched She-Hulk weekly without fail and absolutely fell in love with the quirky nature of the series (breaking the 4th wall is one of my all-time favorite comedic elements).  She-Hulk is the first Marvel property to feature a completely CGI'ed main character, which of course comes with some production challenges. Marvel recently put out a really cool...

I was fully and completely prepared to write a post about the recent reveals at D23 Expo this past weekend...but then was distracted and entertained by an article I saw over on Gizmodo about a battle between Australians and Cockatoos in the suburbs of Sydney. Birds are  smart  - so much so that I often wonder why the term "bird brained" is an insult. Cockatoos in Syndey, Australia have apparently learned to open trash bins, and the technique is catching on between other groups of co...
