One of the benefits of working with a bunch of people who love games as much as you do is that you’re never short on takers for a game night! We try to do these once a month or so here at the office as time permits, and it’s always a good excuse for us to unwind together after a long work day and just enjoy each other’s company. The biggest challenge of game nights here is finding games that can accommodate larger groups of people. Our turnouts are so big that it&r...

Want a chance to meet (or meat, I guess, depends on how terrified you are of the concept of  Jaws ) a Great White Shark? The shark-tracking organization OCEARCH is here to give one lucky person and a guest that opportunity. They're launching a sweepstakes that closes on September 30th where the grand prize is a 5-day ocean research voyage that will let you get up close and personal with a Great White Shark. One of the primary methods of researching sharks is to tag them, and OCEARCH'...

They were on their own. Jenna Casey and the rest of the humans who would eventually be known as the Terran Resistance were not on Earth when the Precursor Shield was erected to protect them all from the Drengin. Abandoned by their people and with nothing but a few ships and their own wit to sustain them, the Terran Resistance wandered the galaxy for many years avoiding the Drengin and their other enemies. Finally, fortune favored them with a safe refuge near the far rim of the ...

One of the first things I do most mornings as I'm settling into my routine is sip my coffee and take a look at recent gaming and tech news. Sometimes I find some really interesting articles that send me down rabbit holes of curiosity or simply leave me thinking, "dang, really?"  Today happened to be one of those days. Since I found a few things of interest to me, I figured I'd share all of them and let you all run down your own rabbit holes of curiosity via the article links. Let's st...

Whenever you think of spies your mind might go to this guy: Or, some variant thereof, anyway (which Bond is “your” Bond?). Generally, most people don’t visualize sentient worm creatures when they hear the word “spy,” but I’m here to tell you that, when it comes to Galactic Civilizations IV, we sure do! The Onyx Hive is a technologically sophisticated worm-like species that originated around the volcanic vents of their homeworld. Their society run...

Nobody likes a delay, but Disney has unfortunately had to push back the release of  Andor  by about three weeks. The trailer for the show dropped yesterday and the new date of September 21st was announced. Disney or Lucas Film haven't given any reason for the delay, but they did announce that the first drop for Andor will include three episodes - something that is, thus far, unprecedented of a Disney+ show release. This decision probably has something to do with the show's ep...

I'm a pretty big Dungeons & Dragons nerd. If you know me, this hardly comes as a shock - but I basically grew up playing various TTRPGs. As someone who loves writing and acting, table-top roleplaying games scratch so many itches for me all at once. My first game was sometime around 1995 in my friend's basement (I got crushed by a rock, it was very anticlimactic), and I remember how excited I was when a D&D movie released in 2000 with the legendary Jeremy Irons in it. Even Jeremy Ir...

If you’ve spent any amount of time playing the Galactic Civilizations series, you probably recognize these guys: The Drengin have a long and terrifying history within the game series. Known especially for their cruelty, these galactic tyrants aren’t exactly beloved by the local population. However, the local population is beloved by the Drengin…and I do mean that in the most twisted sort of way possible. Throughout centuries of conquering worl...

On July 12th, NASA shared the debut images from its fully operational James Webb Space Telescope . The most powerful space observatory ever built, the JWST provided impossibly detailed images of shimmering stars, warped light trails, and thousands upon thousands of gem-like galaxies twinkling against the vast black of space.  Now, I could go into why this is an incredible leap for science and how the JWST is far and away better than telescopes that are its predecessors, but...why would ...

We know that the people at Valve have quite the sense of humor.  This year's summer sale has come and gone, but that leaves us with a fun little present: Valve shared with us all the fake video game key art and covers that were hidden inside Steam's massive digital catalog as part of a scavenger hunt style game. Valve developer Claire Hummel - who worked previously on games like Half-Life: Alyx and Westworld Awakening VR - created the images for all of the fake games that were hid...

In case you weren’t aware, Stardock has been around for a minute or two. And by “a minute or two,” I mean since 1991! Throughout the years, we have made tons of software and plenty of games. It’s true that as time goes on and technology improves, games become outdated - but that doesn’t mean they’re not still enjoyable. I personally go back and play 1990’s T he Secret of Monkey Island all the time and it still brings me the same amount of joy ...

At this point it should be no secret, but we love dogs here at Stardock. Honestly, we don’t discriminate; we pretty much love all animals, and the ecosystem surrounding our office is inhabited by feral kitties, geese, snapping turtles, groundhogs, and dozens of other critters that we do our best to live peacefully with. Still, there’s nothing quite like the wag of a dog’s tail or the excitement they exude when you walk through the door. A few months back, we al...

It's a widely known fact that we love an array of animals here at Stardock, and frogs are certainly among them. Our CEO Brad in particular is especially fond of the amphibians, even going so far as to sport the name Frogboy on our forums and in other places.  So, when I saw this video of a tiny, barely dime-sized frog called the Pumpkin Toadlet, trying to land a jump and  failing spectacularly , I felt compelled to share it so that everyone might also have the same opportunity for a ...
