Speedrunner 'star0chris' enjoys challenging himself, but recently took things to a whole different level during a playthrough of FromSoftware's  Elden Ring.  While some players have beaten the game with an overloaded inventory or modded it to fight as non-canon characters, star0chris had something else in mind: a blindfold. He's already slain Radahn and Rennala and is fixated on his next two big bosses: Malenia and Maliketh. When  Elden Ring  released, I watched a ...

We know that the people at Valve have quite the sense of humor.  This year's summer sale has come and gone, but that leaves us with a fun little present: Valve shared with us all the fake video game key art and covers that were hidden inside Steam's massive digital catalog as part of a scavenger hunt style game. Valve developer Claire Hummel - who worked previously on games like Half-Life: Alyx and Westworld Awakening VR - created the images for all of the fake games that were hid...

You've heard of art forgeries, you probably remember forging a parent's signature on a failed test, but... PC  video game  forgeries? That's different. Or, perhaps it's not so unlike art forgery (though certainly much less lucrative). Retro video games that have gone out of print are in high demand from an avid collector base. There's a robust and healthy community, one that was recently shaken when a discovery was made that one of its members had been selling forgeries. Sev...

Maybe I've just been living under a rock, but I've never heard the term "demake" before today when I stumbled across an article talking about Portal being on the Nintendo 64. Yes, you read that right - it isn't made to  look  like the N64, but is actually  for  the N64. A demake is a video game remake that's on an older platform or converts the game to an older graphical or gameplay style. Valve's  Portal  game was released on 2007 and is probably the last thing ...

The idea of being able to explore the 3D environment of a game while still monitoring the progress of a single person is far from a new idea, but research is starting to trend toward making that pipe-dream a reality. Streaming services like Twitch take a single player's rendered view of a game and broadcast it out to thousands of viewers as a 2D video stream, an approach that helps further popularize video games as a spectator sport. The ability for users to change the perspective of the l...

One of the things that I remember as a kid most vividly are learning games. They were never presented to me that way - although they certainly were to my parents! - but I was gaining educational value from the game as I played them. I would spend hours chasing Carmen Sandiego around the world or reading all about Dinosaurs and prehistoric history in 3D Dinosaur Adventures.  These types of games have continued to persist throughout the years, though they've obviously taken many different ...

Are you allured by the siren song of a mint condition retro game? If so, a haul of sealed classic video games from a store that closed back in the 90's might pique your interest. Check out the video below! A video game retailer based out of Nebraska called Gameroom posted the above haul recently. Chris Thompson, who owns the store and is serving as a liaison for the sale, said that the collection's owner wishes to remain anonymous and originally came into the store just wanting to get a ...

Has anyone else been watching the Book of Boba Fett on Disney+ recently? While it's not my favorite overall out of what we've been given in Star Wars offerings so far, I'm having fun with it. I learned today that there was a game originally scheduled to give Boba Fett his time in the limelight, but unfortunately it won't ever see the light of day . Apparently, I live under a rock because the game was in development and being talked about back around E3 in 2012, but I'm only just now heari...

Image c/o Jakud Porzyck/NurPhoto (Getty Images) Yesterday, I woke up to the surprising news that Microsoft was planning to buy Activision Blizzard. This acquisition will, according to Microsoft, grant them access to hundreds of millions of gamers and position it as "the world's third-largest gaming company by revenue, behind Tencent and Sony." A press release from Microsoft named the dollar amount and added, "Activision Blizzard is a leader in game development and interactive entertainmen...

Ages ago, I recall Valve having announced their Steam Deck console. They released some more details about the hand-held device last week during a Steamworks Virtual Conference, and it appears that the hype may well be worth something. Global supply chain issues have seen the device delayed until at least February of 2022, but fortunately that's only just a little bit longer to wait past the original promised release date, which was December 2021. The specs for the Steam Deck have been out ...

There are a lot of things that I love in this world, but here are two of them that are relevant to today's topic of conversation: Theater, and creative solutions. With a large portion of theaters around the world are still closed or under lots of restrictions due to the pandemic, some actors have turned to the internet and Fallout 76 for an answer to the problem. The Theater Company , a Fallout 76 acting troupe, has been holding performances in order to keep their acting skills sharp over th...

Image Credit: TechCrunch On Monday, Facebook and its other affiliate sites were down and out for the count for a number of hours in a rare lengthy outage. This led to some outcry, as well as some pretty hilarious memes - but that's neither here nor there! Facebook announced today that they are rolling out the co-streaming feature for all of their creators on their Facebook Gaming platform. The feature allows users to team up and stream with each other, while enabling viewers to navigate...

Have you ever watched or participated in a speedrun for a video game before? Whether you have or not, you might want to consider giving it a try: the developer of Stardew Valley has created a new speedrun competition where the prize for the winning team totals $40,000. Now, if you've played Stardew Valley before, I'm sure your first thought is along the lines of what mine was: How the heck  do you speedrun  Stardew Valley ? It's a game that is literally designed to be relaxing a...

I learned today that there is a site called "Hackerone" that connects companies with users who like to hack and tinker with websites, apps, and other pieces of software. These individuals can then submit exploits and hacks to companies privately, and in exchange they are frequently compensated with a fair amount of money. This is precisely what happened earlier this week when a user called Drbrix found an exploit on Valve's Steam app. The Steam wallet exploit discovered by Drbrix would hav...

Discord has been testing the feature out on Twitter for the last few months or so, but was finally ready to launch its new "threads" feature yesterday. Threads has been a highly-requested update to the chat server, with its community of users looking for a way to make conversations in bustling servers easier to follow. Any server with "community" features enabled will be able to transform messages into threaded conversations on both mobile and desktop. Threads can be designated with their own...
