Stardock announced the next-generation version of its Windows® cursor customization application, CursorFX 4, today. With CursorFX, Windows users can instantly change their default mouse cursor on their computer with animated and themed cursor designs.

CursorFX makes it easy for Windows users to customize their mouse cursors by applying skins, shadows, motion trails, and sounds. Users can also import .PNG files into the CursorFX theme editor to create brand new cursors from scratch.

The new version of CursorFX adds support for Windows 10 and high DPI monitors, several new cursor packs, and more. Thousands of additional cursors are also available for download on WinCustomize.com.

"We wanted to bring better cursor customization options to Windows 10 users," said Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock. "CursorFX has a ton of options for animations, special effects, and sound effects, as well as a robust customization community filled with thousands of users around the world.”

CursorFX 4 will be released soon to all users for $4.99. The beta version is available now for subscribers to Stardock's Windows enhancement suite, Object Desktop. Visit www.cursorfx.com to learn more.

Ok. CFX4 loads immediately with only the default cursors.

Added 10 more, loads almost right away.

Add all. Loads in task manager for like 5 seconds, then goes away without ever showing an open window.

This is on a PC with a fresh install of Windows 10. No other added software.  Fully updated.

Hi, I subscribed to OD nearly a year ago. I noticed that the version I have doesn't have cursorfx - even the old version. I tried reinstalling the OD as per the link provided in the CursorFx4 page, but still, the app doesn't add up. What to do?

As I see it, there are 2 possibilities: Quantity of (and you seem to have a ton) or a Cursor package(s) it does not like.  Could you try adding them in groups of 20?

I'll give it a shot, Sean.  Meantime, could you maybe fix CFX4 so that it likes all my cursors?  I have no issues with CFX2.

on Mar 23, 2020

Ok, all went well loading 20 at a time until I reached 299 files.  At that point it stopped loading.

279 loads fine.

My guess is that you figure one of the last set I added isn't liked?

Logic would point me there, yes.  I would like to know what 1 it is that you add back that has it tank - and if removed from the group - that more groups of 20 are added and it continues to loads fine.

I hate being frustrated. This is beginning to be more trouble for me than it's worth. CFX2 works just fine.

That said, I will make one last attempt.  After that, it's CFX2 until the release of CFX4.

on Mar 25, 2020

I finally got all my cursors in, a lot of them one at a time, never found any that were not "liked".

It takes 62 seconds to load a dialog, and sometimes another 30 or so before the busy cursor stops and you can access anything without it crashing.

By contrast, CFX2 loads in 12 seconds with the same number of cursors and is accessible right away.

CFX4 sounds do not work. You set a sound and it does nothing. I thought this may be due to having a sound packager scheme applied, but no.

Clicking inside the config window the sound works, but nowhere else.

There is no pressure here, RND, you don't have to do this.  While it is appreciated, if you would rather just use CFX2 until CFX4 is out of the oven, that's perfectly acceptable.

Ok, but how did we get there - what was the trigger / change? Was it at 280, 281, ... or a specific sound package?

We are aware of that issue and it was fixed internally.  We will have a new build out soon.

Thanks for your feedback thus far RND.
