I love soup.
I know that seems like a strange blanket statement to make, but it’s true: nothing is as comforting as a warm bowl of soup (or chili) in your hands on a cold day. I’m the person who sticks her head out the door when the weather dips below 50 degrees and yells “SOUP SEASON!” out into the world.
Just ask my neighbors. They’re witnesses. Anyway.
Traditionally, we have done chili cook-offs here at Stardock, but we decided to change it up this year by making it a soup cook-off! All chilis are soups, but not all soups are chilis…so this opens the field a lot, while still leaving space for our chili-lovers to bring their favorites.
The competition was fierce this year, with many tasty soups ready for everyone’s judgment. It was such a delicious array! We had:
- Grandma’s Beef Barley
- Creamy Tomato Basil
- Tom Kha
- Cheddar Potato
- Maple Bourbon Bacon
- Potato Soup
- Italian Cabbage Soup
I entered my tried and true beef barley recipe, but lost out to three souperb winners - hah, see what I did there? Look, sometimes you just have to take stock of your puns and hope they’ll bowl over some people with laughter. …okay, I’m done.
Or am I?
Anyway, back to our winners!
Nathan took 3rd place for his tom kha soup, just behind Devin’s 2nd place potato cheddar. Debbie took home the gold with her creamy tomato basil soup - my only wish was that I had some grilled cheese to go with it!
As you can see, we had a great time tasting all the soupy offerings. Jacob and Max from the games team (unknowingly) had their picture snapped as they gave each soup its due diligence with their most discerning palettes while Max's faithful canine companion looked on longingly.
Scherzer gave us his very best puppy dog eyes, but as cute as he is we didn’t indulge him; he got plenty of belly rubs and dog treats as penance, though.
Cook off days are some of my favorite events at Stardock. I love to cook and share my creations with people I enjoy, and I love tasting new and different things that they make too! And the bonus is that now I have beef barley soup for dinner.
What’s your favorite soup? Share a recipe with me!
