Hasbro's "Selfie Series" action figures will be available in the U.S. this week

Hasbro has teamed up with the 3D-printing company Formlabs back around the time of San Diego Comic Con to offer attendees a limited availability experience: to have their likeness turned into a custom action figure. Today, Hasbro announced that anyone can order their own "Selfie Series" figure starting on September 30th.

Marketing action shots aside, I think these are pretty darned cool. A little self-indulgent, maybe, but it's definitely like a childhood dream come true. Although the price is a little steep at $80, I can see these as being really thoughtful and fun gifts for the collectors in your life. Make sure you order plenty in advance, though - average turnaround time for these is anticipated to be between 45 and 60 days.

It's not like you can go all willy-nilly with what you want, however - you have a set number of choices. I imagine those will expand in the future (I, for one, will be waiting for something a little more high fantasy oriented), but for right now you can choose from:

  • Stormtrooper
  • X-Wing Pilot
  • Leia
  • Mandalorian
  • Black Panther
  • Iron Man
  • Spider-Man
  • Black Widow
  • Red Power Ranger
  • Pink Power Ranger
  • Snake Eyes
  • Scarlett
  • Male or Female Ghostbuster

To make an order, you'll need to download their selfie app and upload several pictures from various angles. You'll then have to select hair style and color, facial hair style and color, and then what action figure you want.

What do you think: would you want one of these? Let me know in the comments!

Pretty brilliant, I'd say.  Intriguing.

I'd have no use for one, but I can certainly see where kids or serious fans would think it's great.  Ya, a little on the pricey side but not outrageous.  I'll bet they sell a ton of these.

I think it's much better than just a regular selfie. As said in educational resources about the meaning of selfies: "People take selfies with a camera pointed or held at a mirror instead of using a self-timer. A selfie is different from a self-portrait because the photographer usually has control over their images. People take selfies with a camera pointed or held at a mirror instead of using a self-timer. Your material "selfie" I would like to buy it.
