Things and stuff and things.

On Monday, Disney announced that a slew of upcoming releases (most of which are Marvel superhero films) have been pushed back by a matter of months. Some eagle-eyed viewers noticed that some previously announced movies have been taken off the schedule all together - so what's going on?

There are a couple of possible reasons. Disney could potentially be hoping that, by waiting a few extra months, people will start returning to the movie theaters with more frequency, thus upping box office gains. It's also possible that one of the movies is running behind in production - Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, for example - and everything else needs to be pushed so that the films can release in a chronological order that makes sense.

It's interesting to see that Disney has pulled three upcoming movies out of their lineup entirely. I'm not sure if it's that they're scrapping the idea, or if they're just not mentioning a delayed date because it's so far out and production has even begun yet anyway. It's hard to say. An upcoming Indiana Jones film has also been delayed until 2023 - yikes! Harrison Ford isn't getting any younger here, Disney.

Here's a complete list of what's been announced to have delays or cancelations.

  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of MadnessOriginal Release Date: 3/25/22  |  New Release Date: 5/6/22
  • Thor: Love and Thunder - Original Release Date: 5/6/22  |  New Release Date: 7/8/22

Any of these delays have you bumming? I am happy that Dr. Strange, Thor, and Black Panther haven't been pushed back by too much - and to be honest, I thought we were done destroying the Indiana Jones franchise. Guess I was wrong...oof.

I would imagine Covid has thrown a lot of sand into their machine, across the board. There are a lot of interdependent processes and schedules.

It's kind of like 50 cargo ships sitting in the harbors and not enough people to unload them or truck it away.
