Are you thinking about getting your hands on Microsoft's Surface Duo? If so, your opportunity is approaching. Microsoft announced last week that the release date for the mobile device is set for September 10th, just a little under a month from now.

According to Frank Bucholz's Surface IT Pro Blog, "Surface Duo represents the next wave of mobile productivity, inspiring people to rethink what is possible with the device in their pocket. Surface Duo delivers the easiest way to multitask on the go, bringing together the power of Microsoft 365 experiences and the full ecosystem of Android mobile apps. Starting at $1,399, Surface Duo opens into the thinnest mobile device on the market with an 8.1" PixelSense Fusion display connected by a revolutionary 360-degree hinge, allowing you to use each 5.6" display individually or together, across a variety of modes. Do more wherever you are with Surface Duo."

The Surface Duo is lightweight, thin, and contains a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform processor that has been optimized for the dual-screen experience. Its camera specs include an auto mode with low-light and HDR multi-frame photo capture, super resolution zoom, adjustable depth control, and more. It'll record in 4K or 1080p at 30fps and 60fps.

The Surface Duo comes loaded with a ton of Microsoft software, also, including:

  • Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office Lens, PDF Reader, and more
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Microsoft Teams
  • Microsoft OneDrive
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Microsoft OneNote
  • Microsoft To Do
  • Microsoft News
  • Microsoft Authenticator
  • Microsoft Bing Search
  • Intune Company Portal
  • LinkedIn
  • Microsoft Solitaire Collection
  • Surface Audio

It also comes with several other pre-installed apps, like Google Assistant, Google Drive, Google Maps, Chrome, Gmail, and much more. An article on Forbes discusses how well Microsoft has embraced the Android ecosystem and details some of the exciting aspects of the Microsoft+Google collaboration much better than I can.

A 128GB Surface Duo will set you back $1,399.99, or you can get double the space with 256GB for $100 more. Have you pre-ordered the Duo or are you planning to? What are your thoughts on the upcoming release?
