Stardock announced the next-generation version of its Windows® cursor customization application, CursorFX 4, today. With CursorFX, Windows users can instantly change their default mouse cursor on their computer with animated and themed cursor designs.

CursorFX makes it easy for Windows users to customize their mouse cursors by applying skins, shadows, motion trails, and sounds. Users can also import .PNG files into the CursorFX theme editor to create brand new cursors from scratch.

The new version of CursorFX adds support for Windows 10 and high DPI monitors, several new cursor packs, and more. Thousands of additional cursors are also available for download on WinCustomize.com.

"We wanted to bring better cursor customization options to Windows 10 users," said Brad Wardell, CEO of Stardock. "CursorFX has a ton of options for animations, special effects, and sound effects, as well as a robust customization community filled with thousands of users around the world.”

CursorFX 4 will be released soon to all users for $4.99. The beta version is available now for subscribers to Stardock's Windows enhancement suite, Object Desktop. Visit www.cursorfx.com to learn more.

Ok, that seems to have fixed the previews.

Loading CFX took forever, then it crashed as soon as I clicked inside the window.

Been waiting long enough to post this and it still hasn't opened...............................................................................

Finally it applied a cursor.    So why is it so slow to load?

Btw, for those who asking about purge CursorFX. You can use this guide to purge that old CursorFX v2 :

https://forums.stardock.com/485856/cursorfx-support-faq#reinstalling

I think, if you have both version installed. Please try this steps.

1) Uninstall CursorFX v4 first. Reboot.

2) Do the purge using the step above. Reboot

3) Reinstall CursorFX v4. Reboot

Retest and report back.

If some of the old cursors preview don't show up. Close CursorFXconfig.exe, do the delete "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes\Preview" folder. Start CursorFXconfig.exe

Here what I get from my system.

As a test, if you rename:

\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes

To:

\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes.OLD

Open the CursorFX UI. Does it open quicker?

I removed everything including my installed cursor packs.
Rebooted.

Clean installed CursorFX 4 and everything worked as should be expected, including faster startup.

Put all my old installed cursor packs back in the default location (now 125 packs in total) and the program started after about 15-20 seconds and seems to work ok.

Still takes 15-20 seconds to start every time. As I mentioned earlier, I have a total of 125 cursor packs installed, but the themes preview folder only has 22 files.

The cursors seem to perform well (or better even, than with 2.16). The startup delay is a little bit annoying, but not really a big issue.

Hope this helps a little.

But the previews for more are showing, yes?  Just a note, not everything in \Themes is not an actual cursor pack; mixed in are effects as well.

But still an issue I would want looked at.  Yes, that is a lot of cursors but some caching should be considered if it's causing such delays at any quantity...

Thank you for the feedback, Yrgal.

I renamed the cursor themes directory to .old  CFX opens immediately.

I was just on the phone with Don5318 and while we were talking I opened CFX with the themes forlder at default, it took well over a full minute to load the dialog config box.

Now I do have over 500 cursors, but the older version of CFX doesn't take forever to load.   So, seems there's work to be done there.

I have over 1200 WB skins which causes WB Config to be slow to populate, but it loads pretty much immediately.....just for comparison.  Cursor files are miniscule compared to WB files.

Ok, I added 95 cursors to the NEW themes directory. Took 24.71 seconds to load the config window.  I hope this info helps.   Maybe, until this is sorted, I'll just load what I am using into the directory/program.

on Mar 12, 2020

By comparison, with the full 500+ themes directory active, it took 2:13.07 to load the config window. Using stopwatch on my phone.

Oh, and the config window still doesn't show all of the cursors, so I must assume some are incompatible. All that are shown have previews, but there are nowhere near 500 cursors loading into it.  That needs to be worked on. I have way too many older cursors that I am not willing to give up.

Is CTRL+SHIFT+C no longer valid?  Isn't working here.

Out of curiosity, how far back can we go when it comes to download Cursors ?? Just wondering since there is 6 from this year, one from 2019, and one more from 2018.  All the rest from 2017 and older.  I got to 2012, and then had a couple that didn't seem to load in but then suddenly worked.  Part from one called Blue Killer (link), you get up the box saying it been installed, but it is not showing among the cursors.

Would you mind mention your best 5 cursors or so ??  If they still work on the new CursorFX app that is !

I would need to know what some are (handful, not a bunch...) - their WC links would be most helpful.

Drop down menus don't work in Photoshop when using CursorFx 4. That's all drop down menus, not only in the save file dialog shown in screen shot. My Photoshop is rather old (CS5), but still does a very fine job imo. I tested without any other customization programs running too, with same result.
