I must admit that I lean towards AMD's Ryzen series more than Intel's Core series, though I do have a 10th Gen Core i7 machine that I do like to use as well.

As for upgrading, well I have no immediate plans as I have 5 working PCs that more than suit my needs.  However, having said that, if one of those machines were to fail then I may look at the Ryzen 9 5900X.... though in recent times I've had to get builds or upgrades done at a local PC store due to arthritic hands and cramps making it difficult for me to do it myself.

The intel 11th gen is a bit sad too. Turns out in many cases the prior 10th gen parts are better. AMD is really killing it at the moment. Their graphics cards are

I'm somewhat surprised that more people haven't joined the conversation here, given that so many members here are computer enthusiasts and love/enjoy/marvel at new tech.

I have to wonder if all the Intel enthusiasts have quietly conceded defeat to AMD ... or is it because there's not too many AMD enthusiasts here?  In any event, I think it's a great time to be into computing, especially if you're looking build a new PC or upgrade an old one when there are so many new and improved components out there to satisfy most budgets and tastes.

Who said that PCs are a thing of the past and that smart phones/tablets will replace desktops, etc?  Sure, phones and tablets are great while out and about, but like many others, neither would ever replace my desktop machines.  Not only that, if PCs were on their way out, why would AMD, Intel, Nvidia and other manufacturers keep investing to update/upgrade PC components?  To be frank, PCs are too big an industry to simply go away because of the mobile phone or other portable devices.

As for AMD's Ryzen 9 5900X it is one heck of a processor and is likely to end up on my shopping list sometime soon.  I have a Ryzen 7 1700X that I will probably retire later this year.  By then the price may have come down some, though I do not need to worry so much about price as the 5900X is compatible with the current motherboard and the other components.  

I had planned not to do any more builds or upgrades, but - and I have tried to resist.... really - the more I learn about the Ryzen 9 5900X the more I'd love one to complete the stable.  I already have a Ryzen 9 3900X, so I'd have a pigeon pair [very similar cases] to compliment the study area.

Maybe you overestimated the intel enthusiasts. Most people don’t care either way, they just want the best computer they can afford. I made a mistake,  thought that Ryzen 7 meant I7 7000+, and Ryzen 9 meant I7 9000+. So I thought all you guys made a mistake, and manufacturers were ripping us off, so I went intel this year. I don’t care enough to fix my mistake. Next time if amd is still number one I will go that way. Well it will be awhile, and it will probably be my desktop. 
for the most part tablets and smartphones don’t do the same thing as desktops, and lab tops.

As for AMD, I don't think I've ever owned anything AMD - ever.  Can't say I have an urge to jump ship after 30-odd years of Intel ...

I'm an AMD man, in CPUs and Graphics cards.

If working warrants a new cpu and motherboard combo. I’ve been at my job over 28 years.

I will have been here for 20 years in May 2024, and yeah, being rewarded with one of these for time served would be the bees knees for me.  Thing is, I don't see getting gifted one so I'll keep saving my pennies 'til I can afford one.

I've owned both over the years and have had more AMD CPUs overall.  Price often determined which brand I went with, but twice I purchased more expensive i7s [4th and 10th generations] and have had a great run with them.  So in effect, I jumped ship twice and have never regretted it.  However, with these new AMD Ryzens showing great promise with regard to speed and performance, Paul, you might just find the jump to AMD ever so worthwhile.

I can't exactly say that when I own two Intel i7 machines.  However, I do lean more heavily towards AMD because of the leaps and bounds they've made to up the ante with a range of excellent CPUs and GPUs
