Try the DeskScapes 10 Beta Now
Stardock is pleased to announce a major new version of DeskScapes
Personalize your desktop wallpaper with animations, pictures and video.

The new version includes updates based on customer feedback such as:

  • A new wallpaper manager, complete with the ability to mark “favorite” backgrounds, as well as modifying and saving both static and animated wallpapers.
  • Seamless WinCustomize library integration allows direct browsing and downloading of backgrounds from within the application.
  • Comes in light and dark theme modes to suit your personal tastes.
  • Supports h264 videos with hardware accelerated decoding where possible.
  • New additional effects you can apply to static and animated wallpapers which can now easily be combined and ordered.

The DeskScapes UI has had a complete overhaul

As well as the obvious dark / light mode, the interface now splits the list in to folders allowing improved management of your backgrounds.

DeskScapes now allows you to browse the WinCustomize library directly from the app

Directly browsing the WinCustomize library from within the application puts new backgrounds a click away and offers greater exposure of new Deskscapes and wallpaper backgrounds to other users.

Apply effects and now apply more than one at once

If you've ever found yourself loading up an image into a photo editing app to tweak it to make for a better desktop background, look no further than DeskScapes 10.  The beta includes over 60 effects, along with the ability to combine multiple effects to give users the ability to turn pretty much any image or video file into a usable desktop background.

DeskScapes 10 beta is available for Object Desktop subscribers today.
A stand-alone version is expected to be released this Spring.

Hi, I´ve the same issue for the Hoth Winter (https://www.wincustomize.com/explore/dream/2722/) Dream, it seemed to have uploaded with mpeg-2 codec, I´d tried to reconvert it unsuccessfully, I need better conversion software than VLC.

on Mar 21, 2019

Does not work.

I have done several uninstalls, with purge and reinstalls. Just does not work

I don't know how many more activations I have left to keep doing this

The clean boot is what you should be trying at this point (and stated earlier).

RedneckDude

I keep getting the error that there is no suitable decoder found on several dreams, including a few I purchased from Stardock.

What SD dream?  Do you have the free decoder supplied by MS?

I am working on a more comprehensive purge for DS but still in the oven.

Well, let's see.... Forever Frost, Dryscape, ( both by Stardock) , Search and Rescue, LCARS, Over the Edge, etc., etc.

Yes, I got the free decoder by MS. No help.

On top of that, a lot of the dreams that do work, run for maybe 6 seconds and the revert to my regular background.

Triple monitor system.

Triple monitor system.

Are you using any 3rd party multimon software (Ultramon is one I think)? If so, and you turn it off, does it resolve any issues?

Send me the Wincustomize links for any SD authored (not just sold, authored) dreams that are giving you the codec error.

Ok, uninstalled, and reinstalled the MS free decoder, just in case. Now I get black screen with all dreams.

Ok, Sean, I'll get you links.  I am running DisplayFusion, I'll turn it off and try.

on Mar 21, 2019

Rebooted, disabled DisplayFusion, no change in the ones with no decoder found. Others run ok.

After changing a few dreams, none apply now, and the one I had running is locked up.

Previews run fine. Dream does not apply.

RND,

I would like to stay on topic and only include comments that are directed toward solving observable issues with the DS10 beta.  With that, I have edited out some of the commentary from your recent post that were not additive to the issues at hand.

I need to make sure that the SD authored ones work (or know why they can't any longer) - other authors may need to recode their dreams for them to function.

That said, I see a lockup with with all the SD authored dreams you have pointed out.  I don't know if they should work (meaning, they need to be recoded themselves) or if it is exposing a flaw with DS10.  Either way, I will source an answer.

As for the codec issue, I also need a couple of links to any that are.  I am not saying they can be resolved should they be 3rd party dreams, I just want to see if a reason why can be found and if it is indeed an issue we need to look at with DS10.

Thank you for the reports and support, RND.

Don't have the Master Dream but the SD dream is working fine for me ... I'm just using the KLite Mega Codec Pk.

which includes the Mpeg2 codec .

It was the double clicking of the DLd dream(s) that had it lock up for me - on two boxes (Win10 gen release and Insider)- that should not happen.

I down loaded the SD dream to my downloads folder and double clicked on it and it started and is running no problem

I may have found a fix for the locking up (the DS UI was locking for me, causing the app to crash).

After you do an uninstall of DS, reboot, run this batch file:

https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/DS10PurgeBeta1.zip

It will clean some things that the DS uninstaller is not doing (working on that).

You should be able to install the beta right after.  While it may give you 'no suitable codec found' for some dreams (and a legit response if there is not one), it should not freeze or lock up when selecting others.

Let me know, please.

I'm seeing lockups from just trying to apply from within DS config. Dreams I already had installed.

Sean, I will see to getting you links to more non working dreams in a bit. I have to go get tags for my car.

I will run the purge and follow your instructions as well. Thanks for the help.

Sean, nothing loads now except for just a few. And since the search function on WC is FUBAR, I can't chase down links.

I will try the purge and reinstall.

The MS codec seems to break things even moreso.

on Mar 21, 2019

Crap. Nothing works.  Ok, I ran the purge file, what happens?  I get a cmd prompt, things happen, DeskScapes 10 opens on the screen wanting to be activated.  Plus it causes an explorer window to open.

I'm fairly certain this isn't the expected outcome.
