Release Info and Changelog

In response to your feedback on update 1.4 for Galactic Civilizations III,
the Dev Team has made it so that you may optionally re-enable the
old planetary production wheel through a pref.ini setting.

The reason the wheel is no longer part of the main game is two-fold. First, we don't want players to feel like they must micromanage every planet to this level in order to get an optimal result. Second, the result of such micro management was compelling in that it could, in the hands of skilled players, deliver 10X more production per planet than originally envisioned.

That said, we do understand that some players really enjoyed this and in single player, we encourage players to play the game however they want whether that be through mods or their own custom tweaking.

In addition, this 1.41 patch addresses issues with old game saves and fixes some other game play bugs. Below, you can read Brad Wardell's thoughts regarding the planetary wheel, find directions for enabling the patch, and a full list of changes.

Quoting hl2shadowslayer,

Quoting Achronous,

I just hope this doesn't splinter the community.

That ship sailed with the reward DLC.

Other than that, I agree, having the wheel makes the game more open-ended and keeps to the tradition of the previous GC games being able to control your economic focus.

Lets be clear. YOU NEVER HAD THE CONTROL in PREVIOUS Gal Civ games like you do with the wheel here..EVER!!

It was NEVER (the wheel) intended to be kept in game. It was always intended to be removed.

Again, all previous incarnations of Gal Civ NEVER EVER allowed you to have the planetary control you get when using the wheel in GCIII

On that note... if the community really wants it who am I to tell anyone how to play 'their' game...

...Wow, this is embarrasing. I somehow thought this whole time you were talking about the overall production wheel. I actually loved the way you changed the planetary focus system in 1.3
