Things and stuff and things.
Oh captain, my captain...

Running a kingdom is exhausting work, especially when you have the looming threat of an all-powerful psychopath bent on world domination looming just around the bend. Luckily, you're not the one in the hot seat -- your Sovereign of choice is. And if you're like me and you personify characters within games while you play (by yelling at them for missing an attack, for example), then at least you'll have someone other than yourself to blame when things go horribly wrong. Tip: Try not to talk to characters like they're actual people when your housemates are around. They start giving you funny looks and start to wonder about your sanity.

In Sorcerer Kingyou have six Sovereigns to choose from. Each of them has their own unique set of abilities and champions, which I will outline for you here with a few small details.

Galor the Wizard: If you are familiar with Sorcerer King lore, then you may know that Galor is the son of Relias and Magesta. If you don't know the lore, Relias and Magesta were the well meaning (but short sighted) heroes of the previous age. They’re sort of responsible for the world being in its current predicament with the Sorcerer King and Galor is taking it upon himself to try and fix it.

Galor is a powerful master of magic who prefers his spells over steel. His spell book contains 4 Wrath books, 2 Summon Books, 2 Enchantment books, and 0 Chaos books. Because of his specializations, Galor will learn many helpful elemental damage spells (e.g. lightning bolt, fireball, etc.). His special ability is hypnotism, which allows him to convert an enemy during battle and enlist them into your army. Tip: This ability will gain you a unit for zero logistics cost and yes, the unit remains with your army after the battle is over. Bonus!

Ashlira the Priestess: Ashlira wishes to stop the onslaught of the Sorcerer King and save the world, all the while healing the damage to the people that the previous war has caused. Compassionate and kind to her followers, Ashlira is a dedicated spell caster and is adept at using various magic spells to thwart her foes, as well as buff her own troops.

Ashlira's spell book contains 3 Summon books, 2 Enchantment books, and 3 Chaos books. She has no Wrath magic to speak of, but that doesn't stop her from using magic to tip the scales in a battle! Her special ability is Divine Wisdom, which grants a large stat boost to a unit of your choice at the cost of some mana. She also has Into the Light, which is a low damage spell that grants mana if it is the killing blow.

Kayla the Guardian: Kayla seeks not only to save the world, but also to heal the damage to the land that has been inflicted by the Sorcerer King's reign. Because of her connection to nature, Kayla is able to turn the land itself against the Sorcerer King, impeding his armies and protecting her cities from his attacks. She can summon guardians and build enhanced outposts that allow her to easily control and oversee vast stretches of land.

Kayla's spell book contains 4 Summon books, 3 Enchantment books, 1 Chaos book, and 0 Wrath books. Many of her spells center around being able to summon creatures to aid in the battle (such as a Wisp that can heal your troops or a Frost Elemental that will freeze all enemies for one full turn when summoned). Her special ability is Earthly Familiar, which allows her to summon a particularly strong monster to supplement her armies.

Martin the Commander: Martin was one of the Sorcerer King's most lauded generals during the war. As a reward for his service, the Sorcerer King gave Martin control over the former metropolis of Athica. Although Martin was once fiercely loyal to the Sorcerer King, he has since begun to suspect that something so sinister is afoot that even he cannot abide it.

Martin has magic, but his real power is his ability to command and support his troops. His spell book contains 2 Wrath books, 2 Enchantment books, 2 Chaos books, and 2 Summon books, which doesn't make him particularly strong in any given category. His real power comes from some of his special abilities - Converge, which shatters the defense of a unit who is surrounded by his armies, and Chant of Vitality, which refreshes an army's movement on the strategic map.

Krognar the Tyrant: Krognar is a cruel and callous leader who cares very little about the well being of his people. As long as they live long enough and are healthy enough to serve his purposes, he sees no reason to worry about their individual happiness. He is ambitious and evil, though not so much as the Sorcerer King -- mostly because he's got just the one city and the Sorcerer King rules most of the known world.

Krognar is willing to stop at absolutely nothing to foil the Sorcerer King's plans, though not because he's especially concerned about the world, no - if anyone is going to claim the power of the shards and ascend into Godhood, it's going to be himKrognar draws power from the Doomsday counter as it ticks upwards and has a rather devastating set of spells. His spell book has 4 Wrath books, 3 Chaos books, 1 Enchantment book, and 0 Summon books. Krognar's special abilities are Coercion, which allows a target city to build things twice as fast, and Drain Shard, which allows him to destroy a controlled shard to gain 100 mana.

Drolg the Tinkerer: Drolg is a skilled craftsman and probably the only soul alive who knows this much about the Forge of the Overlord. A scholar first and a leader second, Drolg's focus has been on learning as much as he can about the ancient artifact so he can use it to stop the Sorcerer King.

Drolg's spell book contains 4 Wrath books, 3 Summon books, 1 Enchantment book, and 0 Chaos books. While Drolg has an impressive array of damaging spells, his real power lies in the Forge of the Overlord. Because of his expertise, he is able to access more advanced crafting recipes and outfit his army more than any other Sovereign could possibly dream of. His special ability Skilled Craftsman allows him to open up an additional enchantment slot, and his ability Transmutation allows him to summon a random item using nothing but his mana.

All of the Sovereigns come with their own pre-set abilities, Champions (more on them in a later article), and spell books, but as you become more familiar with the game and how it works, you can play around in the Customization screen to utilize combinations of abilities and Champions that will devastate your enemies!
